Edward Boehm, principle of RareSource, began his gemological studies in Switzerland under the tutelage of his Grandfather, Dr. Edward J. Gübelin. After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill in 1987 with a degree in Geology, Edward went on to obtain his Graduate Gemologist diploma from the Gemological Institute of America. Edward began his career as a gemologist with Overland Gems in Los Angeles, and later joined the Gübelin Gem Lab in Lucerne, Switzerland to further develop his skills in gemology. He then returned to California to work with Bill Larson, President of Pala International, a well known gemstone miner, dealer, and close friend. As a team they conquered new markets and promoted new gems and ideas to an ever-changing marketplace.

Early in his career, Edward traveled extensively to East Africa and Asia, before deciding to form his own company, JOEB Enterprises in 1996—now RareSource. Since then, Edward has continued to travel the globe, developing relationships in Burma, Tanzania, Madagascar, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong and many other countries.

Nearly 22 years after graduating from GIA, Edward remains among the most trusted gemstone providers and sought-after consultants for museums, government organizations, designers, magazines, gemstone collectors and auction houses.

Edward Boehm is a prolific writer and highly sought-after keynote speaker, having been invited to speak at many international trade shows and gemological conferences. He is also on the editorial review boards of two of the most highly regarded trade journals: Gems & Gemology and InColor.

Edward also serves as a director on the board of ICA (International Colored Gemstone Association) and is a member of the AGTA (American Gem Trade Association) Rules and Nomenclature Committee.
